August 2006 Horrorfind Weekend

*NOTE- If you want to skip my lengthy review, just scroll down to the pics :)

I know I must say this every year, but this was the best
Horrorfind yet for me and Mom!  First of all, those who know me might wonder why I wasn't devastated by the fact that Adrienne Barbeau had to cancel at the last minute, but there are a few reasons that I wasn't so upset.  1) There was nothing that could have prevented it; the aborted terrorist plot was obviously not expected, and as soon as it hit the news, I was already preparing myself for cancellations. 2) The fact that she was asked back and agreed to come this year; this means she will be back someday and that makes me happy. 3) I was so incredibly nervous and filled with anxiety about meeting her (I literally got lightheaded thinking about it) most of my tension was gone when I realized she wasn't coming.

So, that out of the way, at least only a few people cancelled, and that was great for Mike, I just feel so terrible about Rutger Hauer canceling because I know how much that meant to Mike.

Once we were checked in and were settled in our room, we headed to the celeb room and immediately got into line for George Romero.  When we passed the lobby before that we noticed Howard Sherman checking in, and I was thrilled.  This was a lifelong dream of mine coming true.  The four people I had wanted to meet most were Adrienne, George, Howard, and Tom Atkins, and I was finally going to be meeting three of them.

The wait in line for George was around an hour, but this was mostly because he really likes to chat with people, I think he is fascinated by his fans.  When the time finally came, it was nothing like I had imagined.  He was first startled by all my tattoos, and then even more startled by my newest Dawn of the Dead tattoo:

He said "This is ridiculous!" in a Daffy Duck voice.  He then went nuts when I told him I was getting my master's to teach elementary students.  He said, "They'll run screaming from you!!" and I informed him that I wouldn't be wearing a tattoo revealing outfit, to which he replied, "Oh, you have other clothing." LOL!!!  He is hysterical!  I had previously picked out six pictures and a t-shirt from his enormous merchandise table.  Two of the pics were for friends, one of which was my tattoo artist, ScottGeorge was wondering what to write to Scott, when I said, "How about 'Nice Tattoo!'", and George replied "Nice Tits?!" LOL!  He ended up spending nine minutes chatting with me, and it was great, but I felt sorry for the people in line.  Oh well, we waited and it was worth it.

We then went straight to Joe Pilato's table.  While we were in line for George, we kept hearing Joe scream out lines from Day of the Dead, and we were going nuts, hoping he would do something for us.  I had met Joe previously at the '99 FangoCon, and wow was this different!  He was really sweet and a little quiet at the FangoCon, but now he was insane!  Lol!!  What fun!  First of all, he looks amazing, he seems to have lost some weight and grew his hair out.

When we got to his table, I showed him my tattoo (I know, but I love it!!) and explained to him I was going to be getting a matching Day of the Dead tattoo on my other leg, and he said, "You better!  Or I'll give you a spanking!" and wiggled his eyebrows up and down suggestively, lol.  He was just incredible charming, flirty, energetic and funny!  I then asked him if maybe he would do a line from Day, and he did the full "I'm running the show Frankenstein!" line real loud followed by some barking, lol!

I then ended up confessing to him about my old free Fangoria subscriber ad from when I was ten that said "I love Joe Pilato" and he made some jokes about the whole illegality and underage stuff.  I had him sign three pictures and then he offered me a choice of two buttons, "PUSS FUCK" or "Horror Whore".  I picked "PUSS FUCK" and he proceeded to shout "And the lady goes for the "PUSS FUCK" and then stood and held the button over my head shouting things like "You loved me when you were ten!!"  Then when I pointed out my Mom who was recording the whole thing, he got a little embarrassed, lol (George was a little embarrassed too, after the "Nice Tits" remark, lol).  Joe then came over and kissed me on the cheek and told Mom he loved me, and Mom said, "She loves you too!", lol.

After that we decided to go to Jennifer Baxter's table.  She was really sweet and I felt bad because she spelled my name wrong on the pic and threw it out and started a new one.  She was really great and she is so pretty!!  I would have to say that she is my favorite zombie in Land of the Dead.

Next was Pedro Miguel Arce, and what a sweet guy!!!  He is just so cool and so nice, it was great!

It was at this point that my camcorder started acting up and for the rest of the day, the picture was messed up and there was no sound, which really sucked because we got some great stuff.  Oh well, at least we could see the images and we remember most of what was said.  I was grateful that it was not the camcorder itself, but the tape, and up until this point the footage was fine.  I used a fresh tape the next day and went back to a couple of the tables.

We next went to Howard Sherman's table and he was incredible.  I love his smile, and he is very soft-spoken and sweet.  He had great Bub pics too; I was elated.  My only regret was not having him sign or say something regarding Aunt Alicia, lol.  I just didn't think of it.

We then went to the Jeff Lieberman table and talked to him about Squirm and how much we both loved that movie.  He had a great pic that Mom got from him.

After that we saw Nancy Loomis, and she was great.  She really talks like that!  Lol.  I love her voice.

We then went to see Tom Atkins, and this was a big thrill for me and Mom.  It ended up being a bigger thrill for Mom, though, lol.  He was great with me and had a very nice selection of pics to choose from.  Mom had already prepared a line she had wanted him to write from a movie called A Stranger Waits that we love.  The line is, "Tell me how he got to be dead."  Mom was nervous that he might not remember the line or movie, but when she mentioned to movie, he immediately sparked up as it is a made for TV movie, and probably not a lot of horror hounds bring it up to him, lol.  He ended up really hitting it off with Mom, and it was great!  He told some stories about the movie and he was so enchanting.  At the end he came and gave us both hugs, a real long one for Mom, lol!  She almost passed out!  Of course we didn't get any sound on the video which really was terrible, but at least we can see it.  We had to go out into the hall to regain out composure, and we realized they were not letting anyone back in so we decided to go back in to see Charles Cyphers before resigning for the night.

Charles was really nice and when I went to pose for a pic with him, he had Nancy pose with us.  That was the end of the first night, sigh, lol.

The next day we went straight back to Tom's and Howard's tables to get some footage with sound, and it worked out fine.

We then went to Greg Nicotero's table.  He was another one that I wanted to meet almost all of my life.  I was very young when I saw Tom Savini's Scream Greats, and I always loved the part in the video where Greg talks about the prank he pulled on his mother with his dummy head from Day, lol.  He was really wonderful and had some great props that he used for posing for pictures.  He also, along with the many cool pics (including a killer one from Land that had the Shaun boys and George in it with him) he had available, he had a stack of fake newspapers that were replicas of the Day of the Dead newspaper from the opening scene, "THE DEAD WALK".  It even has great fake stories in it about the government dealing with the zombie phenomena, lol.  I had to get one of those!!

We then got into the very long Priscilla Barnes line and waited almost an hour.  Devil's Rejects is one of my favorite recent movies, and I have to admit, that I am also a Three's Company fan, so this was a thrill.  Priscilla was incredible, and , lol, was very much like her Nurse Terri character from Three's Company.  She spent a great deal of time with each fan and was very sweet and charming as well as funny.

Lastly, we went to Alex Vincent's table.  He was very nice, and I think this was the first time I ever met a celeb younger than me, lol.

Once again, Mike outdid himself with a stellar lineup and great staff.  He busted his ass the final days scurrying all over the place and paying a great deal of money in cab fare to make sure the celebs arrived safely with all the terrorist crap going on.  Thanks to his efforts, things ran smoothly and we had the best time ever!!  Okay, NOW on to the pics, lol!!
